Job: Construction Contractor
Job Description
The construction industry comprises three major types of contractors. General building contractors build residential, industrial, commercial, and other buildings. Heavy construction contractors build sewers, roads, highways, bridges, tunnels, and other projects. Special trade contractors perform specialized activities such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
Necessary Education
Typically apprenticeship programs (and work experience) for basic levels

Mathematics, English, Business courses, Computer Applications, Industrial Technology
Working Conditions
- Most work full-time, many over 40 hours a week
- May work evenings, weekends, or holidays to meet deadlines
- Frequently requires lifting, carrying, prolonged standing, bending, stooping, and working in cramped quarters
- May be exposed to a variety of weather conditions
- Often work in potentially dangerous situations with hazardous tools and equipment
- May supervise other workers
