Job: Insurance Sales Agent
Job Description
Insurance Sales Agents help individuals or businesses select insurance policies that provide the best protection for their lives, health and property. Agents sell one or more types of insurance, but in all cases they prepare reports, maintain records and seek out new clients. Some may also offer financial analysis or advice on ways they can minimize risk.
Necessary Education
Bachelors Degree with Business or Economics major preferred. Must obtain a license in state where they plan to sell insurance
Helpful High School Courses
Mathematics, Business, Economics, English, Computer Applications, Psychology, Sociology and Public Speaking
Working Conditions
- Most work in small offices with much time spent outside the office in clients homes or businesses
- Work requires local travel
- Work own hours with hours in evenings and weekends usually required

Career Ladder Information
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- May be certified in certain specialties such as life, health, property or casualty
- With additional licensing and certification, may become a financial planner
- With experience, may be promoted to sales manager, superintendent or executive positions
