Job: Painter
Job Description
Painters apply paint, stain, varnish, and other finishes to buildings and other structures. They choose the right paint or finish for the surface to be covered, taking into account durability, ease of handling, method of application, and customers’ wishes.

Apprenticeship or informal on-the-job training

Working Conditions
- Can be hazardous and risk injury
- Most work 40 hours a week or less
- Must stand for long periods and do a considerable amount of climbing and bending
- Often work outdoors but seldom in wet, cold, or inclement weather

- Earnings may be reduced on occasion due to bad weather and the short-term nature of many construction jobs

- Advancement may involve supervisory duties or estimating jobs
