Job Description

Retail Sales Clerks assist customers in finding and buying merchandise. Merchandise may range from clothes to electronic equipment to automobiles.

Necessary Education

High School Diploma

English, Mathematics, Marketing, Business

Working Conditions

  • Works in clean, well-lit stores
  • Work requires standing for long periods
  • Work may require evenings and weekend hours and longer hours during peak holiday retail periods
  • Work can be repetitious

Salary Range

  • 2003, Delaware average annual salary, $23,920
  • 2003, Delaware average hourly wage, $11.50

Career Ladder Information

  • Experience and participation in training and seminars earns positions with greater responsibility, higher earnings and commissions
  • College education is preferred for management positions
