Job: Parole Officer
Job Description
Parole Officers supervise offenders parole through personal contact with the offender and his/her family. They supervise offenders who have been released from prison on parole in order to make sure the parolee follows the conditions of his/her parole. In some states, the job of parole officer and probation officer is combined.
Necessary Education
Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work or related field usually required
Helpful High School Courses
English, Mathematics, Social Science, Computer Applications, Physical Education
Working Conditions
- Some of the work can be dangerous and may require the carrying of a gun for protection
- Usually work in offices, but some time is spent in courtrooms and community agencies
- Work requires travel to make home and job site visits
- Work may be stressful sometimes requiring more than a 40-hour work week
