Job: Drafter
Job Description
Drafters prepare and modify technical plans and drawings that are used by others to build everything from buildings to cars to roads to spacecrafts. Drafters are needed in a wide variety of fields, including the architectural, aeronautical, electrical, electronic, civil, mechanical and process industries.
Necessary Education
High School Diploma with vocational training.
Many employers prefer some post-secondary training.

Advanced Mathematics, Computer Applications, Science, Computer-Aided Design, Drafting, Physics, Art
Working Conditions
- Usually works a standard 40-hour week
- Works inside an office at a drawing board or computer
- May have problems with eyestrain, back discomfort, hand and wrist problems

Career Ladder Information
- Entry-level or junior drafters do routine work under close supervision
- Work experience is usually needed for advancement
