Job: Industrial Engineer

Job Description

Industrial Engineers determine the most effective ways for an organization to use the basic factors of production (people, machines, information, materials and energy) to make a product or to provide a service. They plan equipment layout, work flow and accident prevention measures to maintain efficient and safe utilization of plant facilities. Industrial engineers develop and oversee quality control, inventory control and production records.

Mathematics, Science, English, Computer Applications

Working Conditions

  • Usually work in office space
  • Usually work a 40-hour week
  • Work may require on-site visits to a plant or factory
  • May work long hours and experience pressure because of deadlines

Salary Range

  • 2003, Delaware average annual salary, $71,490
  • 2003, Delaware average hourly wage, $34.37

Career Ladder Information

  • Master’s Degree increase earnings
  • With experience, may enter management, administrative or sales position
  • Many states require engineers to register as Professional Engineers by passing a PE exam
