Job: Mapping Technician
Job Description
Mapping technicians calculate mapmaking information from field notes. They also draw topographical maps and verify accuracy.
Necessary Education
Varies: postsecondary school courses with extensive on-the-job training; Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree

Mathematics, Algebra, Geometry, Computer Science
Working Conditions
- Usually work an 8-hour day, 5 days a week
- May travel
- May spend time outdoors and may be exposed to all types of weather
- Work may be active and sometimes strenuous may stand and walk considerably

Career Ladder Information
- The Delaware Society of Professional Surveyors has a voluntary certification program. Many employers require certification for promotion to positions with greater responsibilities.
