Job: Cardiology Technician

Job Description

Cardiology Technicians assist physicians in diagnosing and treating cardiac and peripheral vascular ailments. Technicians prepare patients for heart catheterization and monitor equipment during the procedures. They may perform non-invasive tests using ultrasound to check the image for differences between healthy and diseased areas of the heart. Cardiovascular Technicians who specialize in EKGs (electrocardiograms) are known as Electrocardiograph Technicians.

Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Anatomy, Health, Computer Applications

Working Conditions

  • Usually work a 5-day, 40-hour week that may include weekends
  • Will spend a lot of work time standing and walking
  • Work may be stressful
  • May need to be on call nights and weekends

Salary Range

  • 2003, Delaware average annual salary, $45,580
  • 2003, Delaware average hourly wage, $21.91

Career Ladder Information

  • Bachelor’s Degree increases earnings
  • Professional certification in Catheterization and Echocardiography, and/or certification in Vascular Ultrasound and Cardiographic Techniques may be required
