Job: Nursing Assistant
Job Description
Nursing Assistants help provide care for physically or mentally sick, injured or disabled people. In the health care area, nursing assistants often have the closest patient contact and provide the basic patient-care needs such as bathing, dressing, grooming and eating.
Necessary Education
Associate Degree or post-secondary training at a nursing school
Helpful High School Courses
Science, Health Education, Family and Consumer Sciences
Working Conditions
- Work may be full-time or part-time
- Work often requires night, weekend or holiday shifts
- Work is emotionally and physically demanding
- Work requires standing, walking and lifting
- Work may involve exposure to infectious diseases
Salary Range
- 2003, Delaware average annual salary,
$24,030
- 2003, Delaware average hourly wage,
$11.55
- With additional education, nursing assistants may move up to licensed practical nurse, registered nurse, nurse practitioner or doctor
