Job: Pharmacist
Job Description
Pharmacists dispense drugs prescribed by physicians and other health practitioners and provide information to patients about medications and their use. They also advise physicians and other health practitioners on the selection, dosages, interactions and side effects of medications.
Necessary Education
A degree from an accredited college of pharmacy, completion of an internship under a licensed pharmacist, and passing a State examination

Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Humanities, Computer Applications
Working Conditions
- Usually work in clean, well lit and well ventilated areas
- Typically stand most of the workday
- May work long hours, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
- Occasionally may have to wear gloves and masks and work with other special protective equipment

Career Ladder Information
- Pharmacists usually begin at the staff level and may advance to supervisory or administrative positions
- Many pharmacists with Ph.D. and master’s degrees work in research for a drug company, teach at universities, or run their own pharmacies
- Some pharmacists specialize in specific drug therapy areas
