Job: Physical Therapy Assistant
Job Description
Physical therapy assistants perform a variety of tasks under the direction and supervision of physical therapists. Duties may include providing exercises, massages, electrical stimulation, paraffin baths, hot and cold packs, traction, and ultrasound. They may also record and report the patient’s responses to treatment.

Working Conditions
- Schedule may vary, depending on needs of facility
- May work evening and weekend hours
- May help lift patients and frequently kneel, stoop, and stand for long periods of time

Career Ladder Information
- Most of these jobs may be found in hospitals or offices of physical therapists; others may be found in nursing and personal care facilities, outpatient rehabilitation centers, offices and clinics of physicians, and home health agencies
- Some States require licensure or registration and stipulate specific educational and examination criteria
- Additional requirements may include certification in CPR and other first aid and a minimum number of hours of clinical experience
