Job: Director of Recreation & Parks
Job Description
Directors of recreation and parks develop and manage comprehensive recreation programs in parks, playgrounds, and other settings. They usually serve as technical advisors to State and local recreation and park commissions, and may be responsible for recreation and park budgets
Necessary Education
Bachelor’s Degree
Helpful High School Courses
Biology, Health, Mathematics, English, Business courses, Computer Applications
Working Conditions:
- May spend a significant amount of time in the office, participating in meetings and planning programs and special events
- Generally engage in less physical activity than do lower-level recreation workers

- Volunteer experience, part-time work during school, or summer employment can enhance obtaining this full-time career
- Master’s Degree and certification may be helpful for advancement
