Job: Human Service Workers & Assistant
Job Description
Working under the supervision of professionals, Human Service Workers and Assistants provide direct and indirect services to clients. They may work as a management aide, social work assistant, community support worker, mental health aide, alcohol or drug abuse counselor, or gerontology aide.
Necessary Education
High School Diploma with extensive on-the-job training. Certificates or an Associate Degree are often required.
Helpful High School Courses
English, Social Sciences, Humanities, Behavioral Sciences, Computer Applications
Working Conditions:
- May work in offices, clinics, hospitals, group homes, shelters, sheltered workshops and day programs
- Usually works a 40-hour week
- May need to work in evenings or on weekends
- Work can be emotionally draining
