Job: Management Analyst
Job Description
Management analysts (often referred to as management consultants) collect, review, and analyze data; make recommendations; and implement their ideas. With new and recent opportunities becoming available in information technology and electronic commerce, they develop strategies for companies to enter and remain competitive in the new electronic marketplace.
Necessary Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree dependent on employer and job level
Helpful High School Courses
English, Mathematics, Business courses, Computer Applications
Working Conditions
- Work at least 40 hours a week
- Typically work in offices that are clean and well-lit
- May travel frequently
- Usually divide their time between their offices and client’s site
- May experience much stress when trying to meet client’s demands and deadlines

- Many types of organizations small, large, public, and private, may use management analysts for a variety of reasons
- The Institute of Management Consultants USA, Inc. (IMC USA) offers a wide range of resources and professional development programs, in addition to certification programs
- Although information technology should remain one of the fastest growing consulting areas, the most successful management analysts will have knowledge of traditional business practices in addition to computer applications, systems integration, and web design and management skills
- As management analysts gain experience, they may become responsible for a specific project, supervise lower level workers, become more involved in seeking out new business, become a partner in a firm, or open up their own firm
