Job: Animal Trainer
Job Description
Animal trainers train animals for riding, security, performance, obedience, or assisting persons with disabilities. They may oversee the animals’ diets, work in competitions or shows, or participate in educational programs for visitors and guests.
Necessary Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; some may require a Bachelor’s Degree and additional skills.
Helpful High School Courses
Biology, Psychology, Health, English, Mathematics
Working Conditions
- The work setting can be noisy
- May work irregular hours, weekends, and holidays
- May work outdoors in all kinds of weather
- Some of the work may be unpleasant and even dangerous, and may be physically and emotionally demanding
- Caretakers of show and sports animals travel to competitions
