Job: Chemical Process Operator

Job Description

Chemical Process Operators monitor processes and operate chemical plant equipment. They must operate their plant in a safe and efficient manner, following regulations and performing preventative maintenance.

Necessary Education

High School Diploma; Further post-secondary education may be required

Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Applications

Working Conditions

  • Work can be hazardous, but strict safety procedures are enforced
  • Works in clean chemical plants, often with constantly running machines
  • Usually required to wear protective gear such as hard hats, safety goggles and body suits
  • Split, weekend and night shifts are often common

  • 2003, Delaware average annual salary, $50,290
  • 2003, Delaware average hourly wage, $24.18

  • Further education, experience and training may qualify technicians to earn more money and advance to a supervisory position
