Job: Farmer (Rancher, Agricultural Manager)
Job Description
The type of farming determines job tasks and description. Crop farmers plan, till, plant, fertilize, cultivate, spray and harvest. Livestock farmers feed, plan, care for animals, and maintain barns, pens and farm equipment. Mechanical as well as business skills are required to work on todays farms.
Necessary Education
- Modern farming requires two to four years of college
- Work experience or an internship is most helpful

Accounting, Agricultural, Biology (other Life Science), Computer Application, Mathematics
Working Conditions
- Work is strenuous, with long hours and little time off
- Many farms are self-employed
- Work is mostly outdoors, but office work is required
- Work can be hazardous
