Job Description

Foresters manage, develop, use and help to protect natural resources. They may determine how best to conserve wildlife habitats, creek beds, water quality and soil stability as well as how to comply with environmental regulations and laws.

Bachelor’s Degree

Computer Application, Mathematics, Science

Working Conditions

  • Work in offices, laboratories or outdoors
  • Work may be solitary or may require working with farmers, loggers, government officials and the public
  • Walking long distances may be required
  • Work may be physically demanding

Salary Range

  • 2003, National average annual salary, $48,180
  • 2003, National average hourly wage, $23.16
Career Ladder Information
  • Advanced degrees can lead to managerial positions as well as positions in research or teaching
  • Some states require mandatory licenses to acquire the title “Professional Forester”
