Job: Process Technician

Job Description

Process technicians are chemical technicians who work within chemical plants. They may operate equipment, monitor plant processes and analyze plant materials.

Necessary Education

Associate Degree or a minimum of 2 years of specialized training.

Science, Mathematics, Computer Applications

  • Work in a plant environment
  • Work hours are dependent on employment facility

  • 2003, National average annual salary, $39,130
  • 2003, National average hourly wages, $18.82
Career Ladder Information
  • Technicians usually begin work in routine positions, under the direct supervision of a scientist or a more experienced technician
  • As technicians gain more experience, they typically take on more responsibilities under general supervision and may eventually become supervisors

Did you know?

  • Process technicians may need to master equipment so that they can adjust settings when necessary and recognize when malfunctioning.
